Growing and Changing
Lillian is slowly working her way back up to her birth weight. The doctors were
a little concerned at first since she lost around 15% (more than 10% causes concern)
of her weight in the first 5 days. We were going to the pediatrician every day
for a weight check. Needless to say, we were very stressed out first time parents.
I’m very happy to report that things have improved a great deal. She is putting
the weight back on consistently due to a very regimented feeding schedule. Our
pediatrician has been so happy with the results that we don’t need to go back into
the office until she is 2 months old – unless she gets sick of course. I bought
an infant scale anyway and will be tracking her weight myself just to satisfy my own
paranoia.
Mary Beth’s Mother arrives today for a week long visit to provide some extra help
around the house since I am returning to work on Monday. In hindsight, I wish
I would have taken more time off. I was convinced that I would be ready to go
back to work by now – but I am really dreading Monday morning. I will miss my
Wife and Daughter VERY much.
Here’s some more pictures from the last few days:

Day IV
Installed Anapod Explorer 8.7.0
Reboot
Downloaded and installed ipod updater
Reboot
Installed ipod drivers from CD
Somehow, the ipod got restored to factory condition. Have
to reload all 5000+ songs. This wouldn’t be so bad if I didn’t also need to downsample
all the bitrates to that they all fit on my 20GB device. Thanks
apple.
Configured anapod explorer to do the transfer and downsampling. Transferred
a portion of my library, so I at least have something to listen to. The
remainder will have to be transferred later. Crap. It’s
not down sampling…
Installed InterVideo MP3 Xpack
Transferred a bunch of songs, using the AudioMorph function, which is now working
correctly
Installed Diskeeper 9 Pro trial edition (I own 7 & 8). I’m
really interested to see if it has ANY improvements in handling the 2GB files that
Vmware produces. 7 & 8 both completely
consumed all the resources in the system while processing virtual disk drives. I
hope that DK8 has realized that it doesn’t need to read an ENTIRE file into memory
before attempting to defrag. If so, I’ll
upgrade.
Installed Sequoia View
Installed ISO Buster
Installed IIS and FPSE
Reboot
Installed VS Prerequisites
Installed VS.NET 2003 Enterprise Architect
Installed Jan 05 MSDN Library
Reboot
I can no longer see the second partition on my main HD. Installing
EasyRecovery Professional to see what’s up.
No errors are found, but there is no file system. Recovered
the virtual machines using EasyRecovery, so at least no data has been lost.
Around the World at Epcot
My wife an I just got back from our 2nd trip to Walt Disney World this summer.
By far the coolest thing we did this time was taking the Around
the World at Epcot tour. It’s a two hour experience which gives you an opportunity
to experience the World Showcase before it opens to the public. Oh, and it takes
place entirely on Segway‘s. Too Cool!
The tour starts out with a 45 minute training session which covers the basics of Segway
riding that you will need in the park. After that, you quickly ride through
Future World and into the World Showcase. From there on, you get to ride around
all of the countries. There is even an opportunity for photographs and videotaping
outside of the Italy pavilion. Highly recommended.
I really enjoyed the experience of riding the Segway for an extended period of time.
By the end of the tour, I was really getting the hang of it and was doing fairly complicated
manuvers. It took a surprising amount of time to get proficiant with turning
and going up and down inclines. I wish I had a reason to justify buying one.
Do I think it will change the world? Probably not, but it was fun.
